• Downtown Kissimmee Farmers Market

Yesterday was the first (official) day of fall, so I thought I would make my way to the farmers market in historic downtown Kissimmee.  The changing leaves and crisp temperature signifies fall up north, but here in Florida the changes are much more subtle.  The air temperature dropped, but ever so slightly, today it was a beautiful 87 with a hint of humidity and a gorgeous breeze blew.  The farmers market is located in Toho Square on the corner of Darlington Avenue and Pleasant Street and is open year round from 7am to 1pm every Thursday.

It’s a quaint little market with a small town appeal and is filled with local artists, crafters, herbalists and regional farmers.  As I approached the square, the fresh aroma of baked breads awakened my senses and let me know I was in for a real treat. The vendors’ tables overflowed with bright vibrant fruits and vegetables from the classic Florida orange to the obscure carambola (star fruit). I highly recommend the vine ripe tomatoes…delicious! Looking around I saw handmade blankets, stunning jewelry and charming stationary at reasonable prices.  There were wood crafts and plant vendors and even someone selling home made maple syrup.  While exploring I found a vendor selling a “Hello Kitty” necklace and earring set which I couldn’t pass up as a gift for my niece.

It was a beautiful morning to be outside and to walk around scenic downtown Kissimmee.  I also took the opportunity to do a little window shopping down Main Street.  My only regret was that I didn’t bring my dog, Gina; she would have loved it too. I am grateful that writing this blog encourages me to visit these kinds of treasures that are right around the corner.
