Cinderella’s Castle comes to life like it never has before in a new show at Florida’s Magic Kingdom Park in The Magic, The Memories, and You. The show is similar to Disney’s World of Color at the California Adventure Park, which uses a curtain of shooting water as a screen for an impressive display of images and lights set to music, but instead the castle is used as the backdrop. What makes this show unique is how it showcases actual Disney theme park guests. Up to 500 photos of guests TAKEN THAT DAY by PhotoPass photographers are projected onto the castle in this whimsical display. Fireworks exploding behind Cinderella’s Castle conclude the show with a bang.
I was invited to this event the evening prior to the Disney Dream Christening Cruise along with a multitude of other media and their families. (Like I said in my post, Giddy About Kissimmee, travel blogging may not pay much but it does come with some excellent perks.) My family’s busy day was spent switching from the Mona Lisa Suite Hotel to Disney’s Polynesian Resort and then scrambling to cram in a couple of hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the kids. (Travel blogging also comes with its challenges!) That evening, my husband graciously offered to stay back at the hotel so that our children could get some much-needed sleep.
I was sad my family had to miss out on this fabulous show and event, but I have to admit it was fun to have some time to enjoy this nighttime spectacular and media party without breaking up sibling fights, scheduling potty breaks, or worrying about anyone else’s needs but my own for one evening.
After a short media briefing about fun things to come at Disney (like a gigantic expansion of Walt Disney World’s Fantasyland!), the party began. I could tell by the huge grins of the children in attendance that Disney succeeded in fulfilling a few dreams that evening. There were meet-and-greets galore with characters like my daughter’s favorites – Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye from Toy Story. (Shh! Don’t tell her!) Plus a handful of attractions were open to attendees, including the Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and Frontierland’s Shootin’ Arcade.
Meanwhile I had blast chatting with other attendees and gobbling up tasty food like a tomato and mozzarella salad and ginger shrimp served on sugar cane skewers. The night ended with Mickey Mouse waving farewell to tired party goers as we departed the park, excited to board Disney Dream the next day.
