• 21 Years Is Much Too Long…

Greetings All!  My name is Laura and I’m a full time IT Professional, Wife, Mom, and Blogger.  My blog, Laura in the Motor City, covers pretty much anything I decide to write about – with a slight bias toward technology and travel.  My love of writing and travel is what got me to apply to be a guest blogger and I’m very happy to be here this week to share my experiences with you!

I can’t believe that it’s been 21 years since my last visit to the Kissimmee area.  My husband and I got married in October 1990 and spent our honeymoon exploring all that Kissimmee had to offer. We’ve been back to Florida many times since 1990, but haven’t been back to the Kissimmee area and are very excited to see how things have changed.  This time around we are bringing our two boys (both 8 years old), my Mom and Dad, and a lots of extended family from Michigan and Texas – 12 people in total!

The last time we visited, we stayed on International Drive.  While that was a fine location, we knew that we wanted to be MUCH closer to the Walt Disney World parks this time…without paying Walt Disney World prices!  We also knew that we’d need multiple rooms for 12 people and that’s one of the reasons we decided to stay at Global Resort Homes.  We’ve actually acquired two 5 bedroom homes for our visit (within 3 miles of the parks) and I can’t wait to write about all the amenities.  I’ve heard nothing but GREAT things about Global Resort Homes and am just itching to check-in and start relaxing next to my private pool…AHHHH!

I’ve got a full week planned for the family and we’ll start by visiting Gatorland.  Joe and I visited on our honeymoon, but the website looks nothing like the place we walked through 21 years ago. I’m sure my boys will love it! After a day of fun with the gators, we will head to the Cocoa Beach area for a day trip.  I have fond memories of visiting the Ron Jon Surf Shop and love that it’s such a convenient distance from the Kissimmee area.  Perhaps I’ll come home with a boogie board this time!

Some of my FAVORITE men all ready for a Disney Halloween!

The next few days after the beach will be spent exploring The Walt Disney World Resort.  We’ll start with Disney’s Animal Kingdom, work our way through parts of Epcot, and finish with a full day at the Magic Kingdom.  I’ve got a surprise character breakfast planned for my boys the morning we visit the Magic Kingdom and I’ll be sure to write about how that goes!

On our final full day in the Kissimmee area, we’ll be visiting SeaWorld.  While the majority of my family is probably most excited about Disney, I’m probably most excited about SeaWorld.  I’ve been to many theme parks in my time, but have never visited SeaWorld.  I love all things involving the water (maybe because I’m an Aquarius) and can’t wait to spend time watching the dolphins and sea lions.  I’m sure these fascinating creatures will keep me entertained for hours!

Well…I think that’s about it for now.  You’ll be hearing much more from me over the next week.  I hope you enjoy my stories and I also hope I’m able to provide some interesting tidbits that will help out on your future vacation to Kissimmee.  Talk more with you soon!

    Laura…
