    Beach Fun!

When planning my vacation to Kissimmee, I knew that I was going to want to spend a day at the beach.  The great thing about the location of Kissimmee is that you can easily access the beach without spending an exorbitant amount of time in your rental car.  To the east (about an hour away), you’ve got your choice of beaches along the Atlantic coast.  If you choose to head west (about 90 minutes away), you can find yourself on Clearwater Beach, with your toes in the Gulf of Mexico.  I hadn’t been to the Atlantic side in years, so I opted for us to head east and visit Cocoa Beach.

Some of the guys in our large family group decided they wanted to do some deep sea fishing, so the first thing we did when arriving on the coast was drop them off at SeaLeveler Fishing Chartersin Cape Canaveral.  Since my boys are getting older, I decided to give them the option of going to the beach or going on the fishing trip.  My youngest, James, picked the fishing trip and ended up having a good time fishing with his Papa and cousin.

After we dropped off the fishermen, we headed just a little further down the coast and spent the day on Cocoa Beach.  The first thing we did when getting there was eat lunch since some of us had forgotten to eat breakfast. We found a little place called the Sandbar Sports Grill, where the food was very good.  Another plus was that we got to eat outside and enjoy the day.  This was a nice treat since we have very few outdoor restaurants in our area of Michigan.

After we ate, we grabbed our towels and headed for the beach.  Hubby rented us an umbrella and chairs and we proceeded to spend the next 4 hours having a great time playing in the sand and swimming in the surf.  I was having so much fun in the water, that I ended up renting a body board and did some body surfing.  I first learned how to body surf on my spring break in 1989 and was surprised how quickly it all came back to me.  I was able to catch quite a few little waves and caught about 3-4 awesome waves, were I was able to ride that board all the way back to the sand.  It was the best time I’ve had at the beach in years!

When the time came to pack up and head back to Kissimmee, I was a little sad to be leaving the beach, but also very happy to be heading back.  Because I knew that in only 60 minutes, I’d be back in my 5 bedroom resort home, sitting next to my heated pool with a drink in my hand.  Because of the proximity of Kissimmee to the beach, I was able to have my beach day AND my great house only 3 miles from Walt Disney World.  It was truly the best of both worlds!
