While visiting Epcot today, I learned about an awesome feature and decided to spread the word. After a late lunch in Mexico, we headed for the Test Track, prepared to spend about 60 minutes waiting in line to ride the attraction.
My brother-in-law, who happens to work onsite at a General Motors plant, had heard that he might be able to get access to the ride faster if he showed his General Motors badge.
This makes more sense if you know that General Motors is the sponsor of the Test Track ride at Epcot. He asked one of the Epcot Cast Members, and sure enough, there was a special entrance for General Motors employees. We wasted no time heading for that entrance.
Once inside, we called the lobby and the receptionist sent the elevator down for us. We were then whisked up to the conference level, where there was comfortable seating and courtesy beverages while we waited for the receptionist to arrange for us to get immediate access to the attraction. While we waited in the lounge, we had a
fantastic view of Spaceship Earth and also of the outside section of the Test Track from above it. I managed to snag a few pictures of how it looks from above, which I thought was a very cool view.
In less than five minutes, the receptionist let my brother-in-law know that our tickets were ready and we proceeded to head down a hallway for another elevator, which took us to the ride level. Once there, we opened a door and we were literally at the boarding area of the ride. The gentleman working the door took our passes and we found ourselves in cars in about three minutes. I would say that the
entire process took less than 15 minutes, which was much better than the potential 60 minutes we could have ended up waiting. If you are planning a trip to Epcot and you or someone in your traveling group is affiliated with General Motors, make sure you ask a Cast Member about the special access. It ended up being the cherry on top of the lovely day we’d already been having!
