• Wild Florida Airboats

Today was a very adventurous day for my family. We took this day to learn more about Florida wildlife and take a tour via Wild Florida Airboats.

The trip out to Wild Florida Airboats is a little far if you are in fact near Disney. It is located in St. Cloud on Cypress Lake, at the headwaters of the Everglades, which is about 1 hour South East of Disney, also the way we took had 1 toll road to pay which was $1.50 if I remember correctly.

Wild Florida is located on over 4,000 acres and 1,000 gators in the waters without a road or house in sight. To start your tour you come in to the gift shop and pick a time you’d like to take your air boat tour. While you are waiting you can shop for real gator heads (no thank you, haha) or some snacks. They also had a couple birds in the gift shop which were hysterical and kept talking to us.

When you get on the boat you can wear special ear phones because the boats are really loud. We tried talking while the boat was going and there was almost no point because you had to scream so loud just to be heard.

The tour guide we had was awesome. All of the guides are US Coast Guard approved captains so we felt very safe. The guide we had (I forget his name) has been working at Wild Florida for all his life and he knew every answer to all our questions.  The tour guide sits higher then the passenger seats so when he would see a gator in the distance he would stop and we could just drift in the waters till we got close to the gator.
We saw about 10 gators which apparently was a great day according to our guide. We also saw livestock standing around in the waters. They mind their own business and because these are alligators and not crocodiles they don’t bother the cows.

We also were fortunate to see two bald eagles sitting on top of a tree. We stopped the boat and just watched them for a good 5 minutes.

We went on a 1 hour tour and it really was so relaxing. The end of the tour was something I was NOT happy with though. When we arrived at the dock a guy was waiting for us while holding a gator. He began to explain to us more about Wild Florida and then proceeded to tell us that holding the gator and taking a picture with it is REQUIRED. I did try to get out of it because I was so scared but in the end I was forced to hold the gator. So it’s a small thing that sorta upset me because I was made to do something I was not comfortable with but all in all the tour was great and we had a good time.

The drive to and from was definitely worth seeing 100% pure Florida wilderness at its finest.
