Central Florida resident to take Kissimmee by storm!

Welcome! My name is Mara Shorr, and I’ve been a Central  Florida resident for nearly seven years.

I moved down to Orlando after graduating from Central Michigan University, and had come to Michigan by way of Pennsylvania.  Like so many daughters who insist on calling their mother their best friend, my decision to move wasn’t based on a passion for The Mouse or the need to escape frigid mid-Michigan winters (read: highs of two degrees!).

Plain and simple: I was ready to once more be close to my parents, who had moved to Central Florida while I was in college.

So, I arrived and began making a name for myself in Central Florida’s incredible non-profit community.  I have now spent my career raising money for everything from the arts to animal rescues, public television and radio to health causes.

This past year, I created my own business, The Leone Company; I now have the fantastic pleasure of helping non-profits and small businesses achieve their marketing, fundraising and community relations goals.  I adore it.

On a personal note, I’m an East Orlando homeowner, vegetarian, mom to four-legged children (two dogs, one cat) and avid blog reader.

This week, I have the “Really? I get to call this work?” opportunity of exploring the “slightly off the beaten path” Central Florida, bringing you ideas of places to visit while, well, you’re visiting.

So stay tuned! I’m excited to show you a week in my Central Florida!

And, know that you’re always able to follow me at my business’s blog at http://theleonecompany.com/blog/ as well as via Twitter at @marashorr!
