The first time I heard about the Farmers’ Market in historic Downtown Kissimmee, I couldn’t wait to check it out. Personally, I believe an ideal farmers’ market is much more about quality than quantity; I don’t need 50 vendors selling pesticide-filled, imported produce. I want a dozen local vendors whose products I truly believe in, one where I can meet the growers and makers. (On a side note: if you share the same philosophy, be sure to pick up a copy of edible Orlando while you’re in town, or visit them online to stay updated o the latest in Central Florida’s local food culture.)
That is exactly what this market promises.
Located in Toho Square on the corner of Darlington and Pleasant Streets, this fairly priced, year-round Farmers’ Market is open Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From soaps to citrus, berries to basil and freshly baked bread, this market is not only child-friendly but provides easy parking for the quick in-and-out stop.
Take the time to ask each vendor about their products. They’re happy to make suggestions on the best produce and explain their growing season.
And even tell you how they came up with a soap named Meatloaf.
